Pillar Procedure
Often, the noisy sounds of snoring occur when airflow causes soft palate tissue
in the back of your mouth to flutter or vibrate, kind of like a sail in
the wind.
During the Pillar Procedure, your physician inserts three tiny
implants into the
muscle of the soft palate. The body's natural fibrotic response to these
implants
causes tissue to grow into and around the implants over the course of 8 to 12
weeks. The implants, together with the fibrotic tissue, add structural
support
and stiffen the soft palate. This helps reduce the tissue flutter or
vibration that
can cause the snoring sound as well as the tissue collapse that can obstruct
the upper airway and cause a condition called obstructive sleep apnea.
The Pillar Procedure is designed to be a permanent
solution.
Following the Pillar Procedure, you should not:
-see or feel the tiny implants
-experience difficulty swallowing
-have to alter normal daily routine
-have to change your normal diet
