Perforated
Eardrum
This can result from an episode of Acute Otitis Media or
due to mechanical trauma to the eardrum such as, inadvertent injury with a Q-tip
or other foreign objects inserted into the ear canal. Most perforations heal
spontaneously within several days. Persistent perforations require via an
office-based procedure such as placement of a paper patch. Large perforations
often require surgical repair under general anesthesia, a procedure known as
tympanoplasty.
